Humbling

So, I was just getting comfortable driving on my own and then I had a seizure last Wednesday night - new milestone: the first seizure in front of anyone but just Brad, Mar and Lar were here to celebrate our birthdays. The real kick in the pants is that I can't drive for another 6 months. Thank god for Lyft and Uber and the light rail. That's how I'll be getting to prospect/donor appointments for the foreseeable future.

Because ride shares can be somewhat unreliable, particularly on the way back from let's say Fort Mill or anywhere a little further from the city center, my pipe dream is to find a personal driver for 1 or 2 days per week that would drive for about $20 per day plus gas. I'm thinking a nice recently retired lady or gent who is a good driver, safe, punctual and possibly friendly (like Robert De Niro in the Intern). That's not too much to ask, right? So, if you find anyone - send them my way please!

Here's the thing - I hate asking for special circumstances and I feel like this whole driving thing has required me to ask for more help (counter to my reemerging independence).

Beyond all that crap - I hate whining. Biggest Pet Peeve. Onward and upward.

I am definitely getting more energy though I need to learn to manage it better (sensing a theme?) I think this is going to be my new mantra. Manage your damn energy, Katie

I have decided that from this point forward, all birthdays should be spent with the funniest people I know and the best food I can find. Thank you for your outstanding visit, Kate and Eric. We are beyond grateful for your friendship and guest appearances by Ragean! My 40 year old heart was full! I also sincerely appreciate my parents making the trip and bringing the best cake I remember my mom ever making (not a slight on any former cakes, Mom) but this one was outstanding in it's field, as Dad would say. I do not have any special feelings about turning 40 except that I will happily take each new year that I am given and do my best with it.

Also, if you've never played Taco, Cat, Goat, Cheese, Pizza, you are missing out on lots of laughs. (Ragean, I'm sorry I elbowed you so hard on my road to victory!)

I was also given some thoughtful birthday gifts - a new Celina t-shirt which I can't wait to wear in front of our DOBO for MBB, who happens to be from Defiance, Ohio. I also received an amaryllis bulb ( from one of my favorite Charlotte couples) that I love to watch grow each day. And, a beautiful demitasse (matching tea cup and saucer) made into a candle. This was given by one of our incredibly kind donors, who reads my blog and knew it was my birthday. The demitasse had been part of his late mother's collection, and she was also a cancer survivor. Isn't that the absolute sweetest gesture?!

Health and Hair

I think I've already mentioned that my last scan was good and am scheduled for March 7th for the next one.

I recently went for a hair trim and the stylist was able to take it from very mullet-ish to a much more intentional-looking cut. Next step I'm looking forward to is chin length! Maybe it will be there by our trip to Panama with friends in April!
